Ammonite

More than 300 million years old, Ammonites are the fossils of cephalopod marine molluscs that disappeared at the same time as the dinosaurs, during the Cretaceous-Paleogene mass extinction 66 million years ago.

The virtues and properties of Ammonite

Ammonite is a stratigraphic fossil. This means it is a witness to a specific geological epoch. By making it possible to date the geological layers of the ground in which it is found, Ammonite not only provides us with valuable scientific information: like all fossils, it also connects us to the history of the earth and of living things. The Ammonite invites you to transmute old memories that no longer belong to you, in order to live fully incarnated in the present.

The spiral shell of this extinct animal reminds you that everything is a cycle, that there is no beginning and no end and opens you up to the infinite possibilities. It also teaches you that what's acquired is acquired and that you're here to grow and evolve, as your experiences unfold.

Did you say Ammonite?

The characteristic spiral shape of these fossils is reminiscent of the horns of the ram, and their name derives from that of the Egiptian god Ammon, often depicted with ovid horns.

The size and shape of Ammonites

Ammonites lived in the oceans and included a wide variety of species - as yet poorly understood - of all sizes and spiral shapes. Some of these fossils have an uncoiled shape, perhaps as a result of adaptation to a particular ecosystem. They ranged in size from a centimetre to over two metres in diameter. Kûrma offers you natural and unique fossils for sale, minerals to display or wear as pendants.
