Mineralogy of actinolite quartz

Quartz actinolite is a quartz (silicon dioxide) belonging to the calcic amphibole group, with more or less numerous inclusions of actinolite, which is an inosilicate containing calcium, iron, magnesium and fluorine in very small quantities. Its crystals are long, fibrous prisms of dark green, sometimes almost black, grouped together in aggregates.

It is formed by the metamorphism of mainly magnesium-rich rocks, mainly in greenschists and some amphibolites.

Its deposits can be found in Austria, Pakistan, Namibia and the United States.

Its hardness on the Mohs scale is 5.5/6. Relatively hard, it can be scratched by pure quartz, whose hardness on this scale is 7.
