The origin of its symbols

The discovery of Adamite is relatively recent: it was identified in 1866 in Chile by the mineralogist Gilbert-Joseph Adam. Its symbolic associations are therefore quite modern, and its mystical aura is enhanced by the fluorescent properties of its vivid hues, ranging from green to pink, purple, yellow, and orange.

Spiritual benefits

The heart and the will don't always see eye to eye, and it's often hard to distinguish between what we desire and what we truly want. Don't they say we should be wary of what we desire, because we might actually get it?

There is a bridge to be built between our deepest desires and their fulfillment—a passage that would help us overcome what does not truly belong to us: a host of desires we have inherited that have far more to do with the acceptance of others than with your inner self.

The Adamite can serve as a conduit for a spiritual connection with oneself in this quest to uncover one’s innermost identity. When a sincere gaze risks losing its bearings, the Adamite becomes a symbol of emotional balance, fostering mental clarity and a sense of joy.

On a physical level

There is no scientific evidence to support its physical effects, but according to tradition, Adamite is said to be helpful in treating hormonal imbalances; by stimulating the endocrine system, it is said to help with respiratory problems and issues related to the throat and heart.

In crystal healing, which stones should be paired with an Adamite?

To enhance its benefits during meditation or energy healing sessions, you can combine your Adamite with complementary stones or crystals. Here are a few examples:

• Carnelian: For vitality, courage, and self-expression
• Combining it with citrine or yellow hyaline quartz will complement the Adamite’s enthusiasm with joy and creativity
• Combining it with selenite (Lapis specularis) will facilitate meditation by purifying energies.

Mineralogy of Adamite

Adamite—Zn₂(AsO₄)(OH)—is a zinc arsenate that crystallizes in the orthorhombic system. It is a secondary mineral that forms in the oxidized zones of hydrothermal deposits rich in arsenic and zinc.

The mineral may be fluorescent and contain traces of minerals such as manganese, cobalt, or copper, which determine its yellow, orange, purple, pink, or green color.

It has a similar structure to olivenite and zincolivenite; adamite is rich in zinc, olivenite is rich in copper, and zincolivenite is a mixture of these two minerals. Its crystalline variety is called paradamite.

It is not very hard and should not be rubbed against other minerals: its hardness on the Mohs scale is 3.5 to 4.

It is found on four continents: in Australia, Chile, Mexico, Greece, and Namibia.
