Aegirine, a member of the pyroxene group, is a and iron oxide. Its crystals are prismatic, striated and elongated, the largest Aegirine being up to 30cm long.

Its color can range from very dark green to black or dark brown to red.

The history of L'Aegirine

Its name, Aegirine, comes from the Scandinavian sea god Aegire. It was so named when specimens of Aegirine were discovered in Norway, close to the sea.
