Mineralogy

Anthophyllite(not to be confused with astrophyllite), formed by the metamorphism of magnesium-rich rocks, contains no water in its chemical formula. The name of these metallic-reflecting stones comes from the Greek anhudros, meaning "without water". It's a mineral known as orthorhombic amphibole, composed of magnesium and iron silicate hydroxides.
Some forms of anthophyllite are lamellar or fibrous and are classified as asbestos.

Asbestos hazard

Anthophyllite contains asbestos, which is harmless in this form, but we strongly advise against drinking water soaked in it, bathing in it or letting children put it in their mouths.
