Black Moonstone
Adularia or Black Hematite
Black moonstone is a feldspar labradorite. In lithotherapy, it is traditionally associated and intuition, the nighttime protection of the black moon
, and inner transformation through the exploration of your shadows.
What are the symbols and of black moonstone in lithotherapy?
Black moonstone is renowned in lithotherapy for promoting introspection, encouraging personal transformation through its emotional grounding, psychic protection and of fear.
Origin and
With its bluish reflections and cat's eye shimmer, black moonstone is not a classic moonstone. The latter is a feldspar belonging to the tectosilicate group, generally a variety of orthoclase or microcline containing albite lamellae, whereas black moonstone has a very different mineralogical composition, being a dark variety of labradorite feldspar containing needle-like inclusions.
Moonstone comes in four colors: pink, orange, salmon or apricot/white/gray or gray-brown, and . Each color represents the energies of a phase of the lunar cycle, the female cycle, the cycle of life, the cycle of the seasons, or the cycle of the day.
The black moonstone is connected to the black moon, menstruation, old age, winter and night. It is in these energies that the feminine archetype of the witch (Miranda Grey), or the Medium, according to post-Jungian Erich Neumann, is revealed and . The archetype of the Medium refers to the psychic zone between the inner and worlds where symbolization occurs, an intermediate zone where unconscious contents can emerge through images, intuitions, symbols, or inspiration.
What are its properties and ?
Thus, the relationship to the symbol is essential in the process and individuation and when it allows the consciousness to integrate unconscious content without suffering it. The wisdom of the black moonstone invites you to descend into your shadows, to explore this unknown part of your being, in order to become aware of what must die within you, what you must let go of. It invites you to shed your skin, to free yourself from your old shell in order to be reborn with a new breath of life closer to your true self.
Introspection, understanding deep emotions, involves looking at the shadows of your inner night, which can be frightening, unpleasant, or painful. The psychic protection of the stone, especially during periods of transition or personal transformation, can support the stabilization of energy cycles by encouraging you to take time to rest, like a seed that curls up underground before sprouting; it reminds you that there is strength and power in stillness, silence, and . At these turning points, your intuition awakens and , and new magic can finally take its place.
It is a stone that connects you and the forces of the earth and wisdom of the moon. A stone of emotional grounding, it and a tool and mastering fear and confidence in your inner shadow. With it, your feet firmly planted on the ground, you connect and the invisible worlds and their mysteries.

- You can combine Black Moonstone with Labradorite, a plagioclase feldspar, for added protection, such as supporting intuition and .
- Combining it withbasic obsidian can help with introspection and
- White moonstone/white hecatolite, with its intuitive softness, can balance lunar energy through its combination with the introspection of black moonstone.

Mineralogy of Black Moonstone
Belonging to the feldspar family, black moonstone is not a classic moonstone, i.e., a variety of orthoclase or microcline with albite lamellae, but a dark feldspar labradorite, made black by needle-like inclusions.
It may exhibit adularescence (a bluish play of light or cat's eye effect caused by interference or diffraction of light on its internal lamellae), often more subtle than in white varieties.
It has a monoclinic or triclinic crystal system depending on its composition.
Its deposits are found mainly in Madagascar.
Its hardness is 6 to 6.5, with a density of 2.54 to 2.66.
