EarthMineralogy
Bryozoans are composed of calcium carbonate, either calcite or aragonite, depending on their origin—with aragonite skeletons being the most recent, dating from -145 to -66 million years ago. This change is believed to have occurred due to changes in the chemistry of seawater. They are partly responsible for the formation of coral reefs and other limestone formations.
