Mineralogy of Goshenite

Vitreous, translucent or opaque in appearance, this colorless beryl may have formed in the magma of granitic or metamorphic rocks. It is a silicate of aluminum and beryllium, often found in close proximity to minerals such as quartz and tourmaline. First discovered in Massachusetts, at Goshen - hence the name. This crystal is solid: on the Mohs scale, its hardness is 7.5 to 8, with a hexagonal crystal structure and conchoidal fracture.
