Little known in lithotherapy, Granite is a stone with anchoring and protective properties. A source of stability, it reconciles emotions and pragmatism.

What are the virtues and benefits of Granite in lithotherapy?

Anchoring - Protection - Reconciling emotions with reality - Balance in relationships

The origins of its symbols

Granite was the symbol of the strength and durability of the gods in ancient Egypt, where it was the material of choice for monumental columns and royal sarcophagi. Red granite from Aswan was the most prized at the time; linked to the sun god Ra, its strength symbolized divine permanence.

In India, it was the materia prima of sacred architecture, its hardness signifying mastery of the spirit as well as immortal beauty. Its presence throughout the world - from the Mayan cultures of America to the aborigines of Australia - attests to its sacred role in invoking stability and wisdom.

Its properties in lithotherapy

Granite's virtues in lithotherapy stem from both its mineral constitution and its vibratory energy. Its composition, including Quartz, Feldspar and Mica, associates it with the properties of these stones, strongly linked to stability and strong anchorage.

Its effects on stability are reflected in the balancing of emotions against pragmatism. Reflection on what is to be gained and what is to be lost is based on inner solidity, revealed or rediscovered by the stone's guidance when it comes to making choices.

Thus, on an emotional level, Granite will be a source of patience and resilience in the face of trials. The stone's vibration will support and in search of structuring wisdom, directing and stemming emotions to make the right decisions.

Linked to the energy of earth (stability) and water (fluidity), it favors introspection and relieves stress, and as such can help maintain or create balance in relationships with couples, families, professionals and friends.

Granite can be particularly useful during periods of change - as a reminder of the constancy needed to maintain balance despite any upheaval in your environment.

Granite can then be used as a stone of protection; according to tradition, its resistance absorbs negative energies and feeds a present, dense and constant vibratory field.

Physical effects

Although not documented in scientific literature, the physical effects of Granite on vitality are recognized by the lithotherapy tradition:

Pink, orange and orange-pink granites may help to promote fertility through their aphrodisiac effects.

White granite may help with headaches.

Black Granite invites introspection and asserts its protective virtues.

Granite mineralogy

Its formation dates back to the slow cooling of a silica-rich magma. It is an intrusive magmatic stone consisting mainly of potassium feldspar, quartz and plagioclase, with contributions of amphibole, biotite and muscovite. Apatite and zircon are occasionally present.

Depending on the composition, its color will vary from gray to pink.

Granites have a grainy texture with crystals, and can also have porphyritic structures, with feldspar crystals detaching from the matrix.

The main granite deposits are found in South Africa, Australia, Saudi Arabia, Brazil (the most colorful, for decoration), Bulgaria, China (for construction), the United States, Greece, Italy, India, Kazakhstan, Russia and Ukraine.

This is a very hard stone: 6 to 7 on the Mohs scale.
