K2 Jasper

Jasper K2 is not a Jasper, but a Granite with Azurite "flecks" and Biotite inclusions, a particularly rare association in nature. It therefore does not possess the general virtues of Jasper.

Jasper K2 in mineralogy

Jasper K2 is a stone discovered and marketed only recently and at the center of much debate in mineralogical circles. While everyone agrees that it's not a Jasper but a Granite, some still doubt the composition of the blue circles.

According to the latest research, Jasper K2 is not a Jasper but a white Granite with black dots that are small inclusions of Biotite and bright blue Azurite spheres in the form of specks and sometimes small specks of Malachite.
White granite is very fine-grained and composed of quartz, sodium plagioclase, muscovite and biotite. Azurite is a basic copper carbonate. According to experts, the reason why Azurite has not oxidized is that it was deposited on Granite after its formation and the climate is particularly cold and dry.

The history of Jasper K2

Its name Jasper K2 was given for commercial purposes, as it is a Granite. The first specimens appear to have been found on the K2 mountainside in Pakistan, but the deposit exploited is in the Skardou region, some 70 km from K2. The conditions of access to K2 do not allow this stone to be extracted and transported, but this does not prevent it from carrying the powerful energy of these Himalayan soils.
