Of volcanic origin, Nuummite is a metamorphic rock composed of anthophyllite and gedrite with iridescent amphiboles that give it its labradorescence in places.
Its formation dates back over 3 billion years, making it one of the oldest minerals on earth.
The main deposit was mined in Greenland in 1982. Other Nuummites of lesser quality have also been found in the USA, Spain and Canada.
