Nuummite mineralogy

Nuummite is a metamorphic rock composed mainly of Gedrite and Anthophyllite, two amphiboles - silicate minerals formed under conditions of high pressure and temperature, characteristic of deep geological processes.

Black with a metallic sheen, its structure is marked by iridescent inclusions of Pyrite, Chalcopyrite or Hematite, which give it its vitreous gold and copper lustre.

Formed over 3 billion years ago, it is one of the oldest minerals on earth.

Very rare, Nuummite comes almost exclusively from Greenland. While similar stones have been found in China and Canada, specialists consider Greenland Nuummite to be unique and the only genuine one, due to its composition and singular geological origin.

Its hardness ranges from 5.5 to 6 on the Mohs scale.
