What are the lithotherapy virtues of black obsidian?
The Story of Obsidian Apache Tears
According to Apache legend, the smoky Obsidian nodules known as Apache Tears are the tears shed by the wives and mothers of the 75 warriors trapped and killed in an ambush during an attack by the American army. These tears were transformed by the Great Spirits into drops of transparent Obsidian, symbolizing the purity of the Apache people's tears.
Since then, it has been said that whoever wears an Apache Tears Obsidian will be freed from his or her sadness.
What does it mean?
Obsidian Apache Tears symbolizes pure sadness that can be released without filter and restraint.
What are its benefits?
Tears of the Apache obsidian can help restore vitality to those who have suffered trauma, loss or grief. One of its virtues is to help you release negative emotions - and thereby promote acceptance and forgiveness. It's a great ally when it comes to getting rid of old life patterns that block the individual.
In addition to the general properties of all Obsidian gemstones, Apache Tears Obsidian, sometimes striking, sometimes destabilizing, urges you to finally release the sadness you've been holding back, to pour out streams of liberating tears. It's as if a dam has broken, but it's not a stone that's going to cuddle you gently, it's going to show you the way to get there on your own. With it, you won't be able to lie to yourself and hide your sadness - for example, by quickly munching on a piece of chocolate or relighting your games console or a cigarette: with it, you learn to work through this emotion to free yourself from it.
It's a welcome stone in the event of loss and bereavement, break-up, shock or emotional trauma and if you want to get to know yourself more deeply, to free up space within yourself by daring to "confront" your repressed emotions, your old wounds, your demons.
Positive change is often possible because it lies dormant within you. With its wisdom, this protective stone helps you to understand it.

EarthBlack obsidian in mineralogy
Obsidian is an amorphous (non-crystalline) volcanic rock. It forms when lava cools rapidly and solidifies without having had time to crystallize.
Smoky Obsidian and Apache's Tears are formed from highly acidic lava with few foreign substances, giving them a translucent and "smoky" appearance. Apache's Tear Obsidian has the particularity of forming in small nodules in perlite.
Black obsidian has a hardness of 5 to 5.5 on the Mohs scale - it must therefore be handled with care, as it is relatively soft and susceptible to chips and scratches.
