From the phosphate group, phosphosiderite forms in areas of alteration of iron phosphate deposits, or in secondary environments linked to the oxidation of ferric minerals, in association with strangite (with which it has a close structural relationship), variscite, wavellite, and . Its chemical formula is Fe³⁺PO₄·2H₂O and density is 2.74–2.76.
Its crystal system is monoclinic with chains of FeO₆ and polyhedra, and its luster is vitreous to dull. Depending on its impurities and chromatic and linked to ionic substitutions (Mn, Al), its colors vary between violet, lilac, pink, yellow, or green.
It is found and Chile, Peru, Colorado in the United States, Portugal, Germany, and Australia.
