Moonstone is adularia, a potassium feldspar belonging to the tectosilicate group.
Its microscopic lamellar structure produces adularescence, its characteristic opalescent sheen.
As a general rule, the color of a moonstone depends and the proportion and distribution and potassium feldspar (orthoclase) and sodium feldspar (albite).
