WaterPink moss agate in mineralogy
Pink Moss Agate is a silicon oxide of the Chalcedony family, formed in a similar way to Green Moss Agate, by the gradual drying of silicic acid released by soil and rocks. The difference is that silicic acid must contain oxidizing compounds in addition to manganese or iron to create pink, pink-brown or orange-pink oxides.
Its appearance is quite astonishing in that, within the stone, a multitude of apricot-colored "bubbles" of varying sizes (oxidized iron and magnesium silicate) appear to be enclosed, reminiscent of hundreds of tiny maggots.
