What does Scapolite mean?

Scapolite is not directly the name of a stone, but of a group of tectosilicates comprising several varieties with different compositions and colors.
It can be yellow to yellow-green, mauve to dark purple, reddish-purple to almost black. Some Scapolites have a cat's-eye effect.

Its name comes from the Greek skapos, meaning stem, in reference to its long, prismatic, striated crystals.
