Obsidian snowflake is a volcanic glass with white Cristobalite inclusions.
In lithotherapy, it represents the balance between light and shadow, the relationship between purity and transformation in the quest for individuation.
What are the symbols and virtues of Obsidian snowflake in lithotherapy?
Stone symbols
This spherulitic Obsidian - which contains spherulites, rounded structures formed here by the crystallization of Cristobalite in the vitreous mass - is in fact a unique stone, whose natural beauty also speaks of the symbolic encounter and balance between light and shadow.
Far from asserting a banal equivalence, the singularity of her snowflake motifs evokes the idea that individuation is not a reckless search for purity to bend to the image of a model, but the quest for an individual essence through inner transformation.
Properties, meanings and benefits
In lithotherapy, Snowflake Obsidian stands out for its gentle protective virtues, better suited to sensitive people than Black Obsidian, whose intensity could upset them. To grasp the meaning of its balance and purification, which can soothe sadness, reduce negative thoughts and encourage introspection, you'll need to visualize its action on an emotional level:
The light and dark forces of existence are not balanced by some mutual annihilation, but by conciliation.
So purification doesn't imply modeling oneself in the image of some divinity, but opening oneself up to its light. What sense would it make to substitute a sum of prohibitions with an injunction to happiness?
The quest for the uniqueness of being doesn't deny darkness or suffering, it gives them a new place, assuming that words can't tell the whole story, that action on reality, however small, through its desire to change a state of affairs, also changes our spirit. The quest for individuation is a modest but sublime movement; it also involves preserving our intimacy, the value of contemplation and the sacred meaning of silence.
The world is not the reflection of your fears, nor the mirror of your inner wounds, limiting or erroneous beliefs and perceptions, nor is a hypothetical Eden its literal counterpart. Existence can be this movement that aspires to the union of opposites, to the reconciliation of feminine and masculine, shadow and light, spiritual and material worlds.
The purification of Obsidian snowflake is an anchor reconciled with the mystery of the world, helping you to recognize destructive patterns and transform them. Its soothing action helps you manage your emotions by opposing serenity to agitation, vitalizing resilience based on ancestral wisdom in the face of hardship.
On a physical level
This is not scientifically established, however, in some traditional lithotherapy practices, snowflake obsidian is attributed with physical regeneration properties, support for blood circulation and aid in recovery after exertion or a period of stress.
What lithotherapy stones should Obsidian snowflake be combined with?
To amplify its effects and depending on the wearer's use, Obsidian Snowflake can be combined with complementary lithotherapy minerals:
- Combined withHematite, known as the bloodstone, it supports anchoring and energetic protection.
- Black Onyx is conducive to emotional stability through its reinforcement of inner strength.
- a transparent Quartz or Rock Crystal will help purify and amplify the energy of the Obsidian snowflake.

Obsidian snowflake mineralogy
Snowflake Obsidian is a glassy volcanic rock formed by the rapid cooling of silica-rich lava.
It consists mainly of silicon dioxide (SiO₂), with inclusions of Cristobalite, a polymorph of silica, the source of its characteristic white patterns.
With no ordered crystalline structure, it is a mineraloid, an amorphous volcanic rock and a natural volcanic glass.
It is found in various volcanic regions of the world: the United States, Mexico, South America, and sometimes in small quantities in Africa and Asia.
It has a hardness of around 5 to 5.5 on the Mohs scale - the stone is as beautiful as it is fragile, thanks to its conchoidal fracture with very sharp splinters.
*Please note! Some minerals may be toxic and must not be licked or ingested (as such or in the form of powder, elixir or stone water) or be in prolonged contact with the skin or mucous membranes.
