Spinelle is a magnesium oxide, also considered a powerful protective stone with revitalizing properties in lithotherapy.

What are the meanings and properties of Spinelle in lithotherapy?
Origins and symbols
According to modern gemological nomenclature, only four stones are considered precious: Diamond, Emerald, Ruby and Sapphire. For a long time, Spinel was confused with Ruby in reference to the intense color of its red variant, the best-known instance being the renowned Black Prince's Ruby of the British Imperial Crown, in reality a red Spinel.
The confusion continued until the 16th century, when Agricola, the father of modern mineralogy, described it scientifically. Although considered fine or semi-precious stones, today gem versions of the intense red, cobalt-blue or vivid pink stone fetch prices comparable to those of precious stones such as ruby or sapphire.
There are two versions of the origin of its name: it could come from the Latin spina, "thorn", due to the shape of its spiky crystals, or from the Greek spinos, representing the "sparkle" of its brilliance.
Contemporary esoteric tradition attributes to Spinelle a protective power against negative energies and harmful influences.
Spiritual virtues and benefits in lithotherapy
Depending on their color, in lithotherapy Spinels can have virtues linked to vitality and balance, energy protection, creation and emotional expression, intuition and meditation, or love and emotional healing.
The Blue Spinelle
The blue varieties of Spinelle promote communication, mental clarity and peace in lithotherapy.
Its action on the throat chakra, facilitating tangible expression as authentic as it is diplomatic, can make understanding and exchange easier for and who have difficulty asserting themselves or putting their feelings into words.
Soothing agitated thoughts and strengthening concentration, Blue Spinelle could improve both attentive listening and the quality of dialogue with others.
The Black Spinelle
An anchoring stone, Black Spinelle expresses the importance of strong roots to get through life's difficulties without hindrance and to assert one's verticality.
Black Spinelle is recognized for its energetic protection properties, absorbing negative energies and acting on the root chakra.
It can help stabilize the emotions and the mind in times of anxiety. When you feel lost, it's a reminder of the need to refocus and reconnect with your essence.
It can be a support during deep meditation, with its benefits for letting go and focusing.
The Orange Spinelle
Operating on the sacral chakra, which stimulates inspiration, sensuality and spontaneity, Orange Spinelle's virtues associate it with creativity, joie de vivre and emotional expression.
Stone can be particularly useful for artists: helping to release tensions that freeze emotions, it can reawaken enthusiasm by supporting feelings that relativize shame or guilt, and in this way reactivate the quest for renewal through the blossoming of primordial but neglected desires.
The Pink Spinelle
It is a balm for the heart and its chakra. In the face of past wounds, sadness or betrayal, Pink Spinel encourages emotional openness, compassion and self-acceptance in lithotherapy.
By promoting emotional balance, it helps strengthen caring bonds expressing joy and lightness, making love and tenderness palpable on the path to emotional healing.
The Red Spinelle
Red Spinelle harmonizes the energies of the1st chakra - the root chakra or Muladhara. Through its effect on motivation, perseverance and self-confidence, it acts on vitality, courage and passion. It is therefore particularly useful in lithotherapy for catalyzing the energies, both emotional and physical, of those who suffer from weariness and despondency.
In the face of fear and doubt, stone can be the mediator for awakening resilience to overcome blockages and meet challenges through action. Its symbol also links it to carnal desire, recalling the inner strength that sustains emotional relationships.
The Violet Spinelle
A stone of spirituality and intuition, Violet Spinel can influence the coronal chakra, intercessor of meditation, self-connection and window to higher planes of consciousness.
In lithotherapy, it is a tool for calming powerful emotions and balancing the energies of the mind. Its calming action on the mind supports the development of wisdom and self-clarity. It accompanies meditation and spiritual progress.

WaterSpinel mineralogy
Spinel is an oxide of magnesium and aluminum that crystallizes in the cubic system - it has three axes of equal length, all at 90° and with a typical shape.
It forms mainly in carbonate-rich metamorphic rocks (such as marble) under the effect of heat and pressure. It is often found alongside ruby and sapphire in alluvial deposits. But it can also form in certain igneous environments, such as pegmatites and peridotites.
Its extraterrestrial presence has been confirmed: traces of Spinelle have been identified in meteorites and moon rocks brought back by NASA's Apollo missions.
Its color is determined by the impurities present in its crystalline structure: red and pink indicate the presence of chromium, blue of iron and sometimes cobalt, violet of a mixture of iron and chromium, orange or yellow of iron and manganese oxides, and black of a high concentration of iron.
It is found in Afghanistan, Burma, Madagascar, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Tajikistan, Tanzania and Vietnam.
Its hardness is 7.5 to 8 on the Mohs scale - a scratch-resistant stone.
