What is the significance of Vulcanite and its virtues in lithotherapy?
Mythical origins
Because of the heat at the source of its formation, Vulcanite derives its name from Vulcan, the Roman god of fire, himself born of influences from Greek mythology, in the divine person ofHephaestus.
In Roman myths, the goddess Juno gave birth to Vulcan without the help of her husband, Jupiter - the equivalent of Zeus, god of the gods. The fruit of anger and jealousy, it is unique and powerful, and as such can prevent fire and destruction.
Thus, in a play of contrasts, Vulcanite uses the ambivalent symbolism of fire in its most positive virtues and properties. Destructive fire becomes transformative fire, like the flame of renewal of the immortal Phoenix bird, which teaches us to be perpetually reborn from the ashes.
Overcoming challenges by rising from the ashes
In lithotherapy, the soothing and balancing virtues of Vulcanite act through this symbol of the evolution necessary to all life. One vision must be extinguished for another to emerge. The stone helps combat the anxiety, fatigue or exhaustion induced by an old vision, by bringing about a fresh outlook on the world. It helps preserve security at delicate moments of change, benefiting balance and inner peace. In lithotherapy, it is also known for stimulating the immune system.
This stone can be used to harmonize the lower chakras, such as the root chakra and the solar plexus chakra. During meditation practices, it promotes a connection to the Earth's energies - strengthening our ties with our deepest nature and with telluric forces.
