Yellow Jasper is formed mainly when silica released by soil erosion processes penetrates sand or clay rocks and "silicifies" them, including impurities encountered along the way.
It is a silicon dioxide containing various impurities. The presence of iron hydroxide and manganese oxide gives it its yellow-ochre, yellow-beige to brown color.
