Chalcedony is a microcrystalline and cryptocrystalline quartz, a silicon dioxide formed from silicic acid solutions infiltrated and crystallized in magmatic and sometimes sedimentary rock.
Inclusions are added to the solution, creating various colors, such as blue, composed of copper, manganese and iron; or lime green due to the presence of chromium, green-blue due to copper, dark green due to ferrosilicates; red is due to the inclusion of iron oxide, and pink, to manganese.
Its hardness on the Mohs scale ranges from 6 to 7 - this mineral is moderately hard.
