Origins
Gabbro, a plutonic magmatic rock, takes its name from a region of Tuscany where it was first identified in 1760.
According to esoteric traditions
Gabbro brings together and binds together what on the face of it are opposites, producing through its transformation a result far more complex than the original elements. So the effect is certainly not a zero-sum product - for its amplifying impact will create relationships where perhaps, a priori, one might not have suspected.

Its hardness ranges from 6 and 6.5 on the Mohs scale - it's a pretty hard stone.
Gabbro is an intrusive igneous rock (calcium-rich plagioclase and pyroxene, with occasional traces of olivine and hornblende), created by the slow cooling of magma beneath the Earth's surface - which explains its texture, possibly more granular than that of other basalts found largely on and beneath the planet's crust.
Gabbro should not be confused with dendritic agate, known in some literature as merlinite.
