Your lava stone is made of volcanic rock. Basalt consists mainly of silica and alkaline oxides, in the form of brilliant or opaque crystals - grey or black depending on the impurities and inclusions in the rock. This mineral, whether of terrestrial or oceanic origin, is fairly hard (5 to 6 on the Mohs scale).
