What uses and fragrances for incense papers?

What is it?

While aromatic materials were burned for their fragrance in ancient civilizations, notably Egypt and Mesopotamia, thousands of years ago, incense papers are much more recent, dating back to the 19th century.

These are sheets of paper impregnated with aromatic resins and essential oils, whose slow combustion releases pleasant fragrances.

Instructions for use

Air purification: Burn a strip of incense paper to purify and perfume the air in a room or other space.

Religious rituals: in ceremonies and rituals to create and amplify a sacred atmosphere.

Relaxation: burning fragrances releases aromas useful for relaxation and meditation.

Air freshener: You can store them in drawers or cupboards to get rid of unwanted odors.

Papier d'Arménie instructions for use

Detach a slat and fold it accordion-style. Place on a heat-resistant surface and light. Gently blow out the flame. The leaf will burn slowly, releasing its fragrance.

Is Armenian paper just another incense paper?

Well, not quite. Papier d'Arménie was invented in 1885 by Auguste Ponsot and Henri Rivier. Its manufacturing process and its ability to burn paper impregnated with benzoin resin without flame make it unique. When burned, the aromatic substance from Laos releases benzoin and vanilla fragrances of unrivalled sweetness.

Is Armenian paper mothproof?

It can be used as a moth repellent thanks to its deodorizing and purifying properties: benzoin resin is known to repel insects. However, depending on local conditions, its insecticidal properties are more or less effective. Kûrma would be tempted to recommend Armenian paper only as a complement to other methods of moth prevention.
