Description
The Rose of Jericho is a beautiful Yuletide and Christmas tradition, but not the only one...
Present in various traditions and rituals, it has many symbolic meanings.
Placed on the table at Christmas dinner, it is said to bring luck, prosperity and abundance to all guests.
At any time of year, placed at the heart of the home, it radiates protective energies.
It is also used for fertility rituals.
I used it when my children were born to visualize the opening of the cervix and my energies.
Traditionally, it is left in water until January 1st (depending on belief, from the evening of Yule on December 21st or from the night of December 24th), then the water is removed (it carries the energies of the rose and can be used for rituals) and the plant gradually closes up. When it's dry again, we put it in a box until next Christmas.

The real jericho rose is called Anastatica hierochuntica. The one I bought is a Selaginella lepidophylla from Mexico. It's opened up but has lost quite a few dry branches. I'm going to wait a few more days. It doesn't matter, I didn't know this plant at all and I wanted to give it a try.

Hi ClaireMonde, yes, we did specify in the description that it's a Selaginella lepidophylla, which doesn't prevent it from being nicknamed Rose of Jericho and from being a "resurrection plant". When did it lose its branches? After being put in water?
