Larimar consists of oxides of calcium, sodium, silicon, phosphorus and water, along with copper, manganese, aluminum and potassium. By a geological phenomenon, copper has taken the place of calcium, which explains its unique color.
Its hardness varies between 4.5 and 7 on the Mohs scale. Handle with care.
The Dominican Republic is the only known origin of Larimar. It is a very rare variety of blue pectolite, created hydrothermally, from volcanic origins. Its extraction from mountaintop deposits is rather problematic.
