Description

Magic is based on natural powers and laws. It must therefore use ritual tools whose origin and quality are assured. However, since esotericism has not escaped marketing excesses, it has become very difficult to obtain reliable incense (confusing names, random compositions, chemical preparations in laboratories). The treatise proposed by Vincent Lauvergne recaptures an authenticity sorely lacking today.
To achieve this, he has consulted several hundred founding manuscripts, gathering together knowledge from a variety of fields (magic, botany, anthropology, history...). He then refined the results compiled in this book through experimentation. Over 120 plants are studied and classified according to their raw materials (resins, woods, roots and seeds, leaves, flowers and fruits), illustrated in full color.
All associated magical properties are listed and good addresses for sourcing are recommended. The author also gives readers the means to personalize their choice and use of incense (materials and additives required, preparation and preservation methods). Finally, Vincent Lauvergne dusts off some forgotten resins and ancient recipes, in keeping with the continuity of the perfumer's art.
An admirable work of compilation and synthesis, enhanced by summary tables bridging all relevant analogies, this treatise works to ensure that priceless ancestral knowledge does not go up in smoke.
