"A fairy tinkle and suddenly all is calm outside you and inside you. A fairy tinkle, and suddenly the air seems to be of a different, purer energy. It seems to sparkle. The tingsha tinkled and space was transformed, as if suspended in time, open to the sacred and to the infinite possibilities".
What are tingsha?
Tingsha are two small cymbals, mainly made of bronze or pewter, joined together by a leather strap.
Some are decorated with mantras or Buddhist symbols.
As they clash, they produce a long and crystalline sound that brings the body and mind back to the "here and now" and fills the soul and ambient atmosphere with serenity.
Originally, cymbals to invite the gods
Tingsha have been used for millennia in Buddhist culture to open and close a ceremony or meditation session.
According to Buddhists, the pure sound produced by these incredible cymbals would incite the gods called upon during a ceremony to come to earth and stay.
This sound is an offering to the deities and thus defines a harmonious and sacred space.
The sound of tingsha to connect you to the present
The sound of tingsha instantly reconnects you to the present. To get fully in touch with reality, in your entirety, in the here and now.
You can tinkle the tingsha in many situations in your daily life, and I'll give you a few examples:
- With children: Whether in the classroom, the playground or at home, cymbals can be very effective in capturing children's attention. For example, to announce the beginning and end of an activity.
- During a yoga or meditation session: to start and close a session.
- As a musical instrument: The tingsha's clear notes make it a very interesting musical instrument, blending perfectly with many other instruments.
- Before and after a period of intense work or study, to encourage the mind to concentrate.
- Purify your living space with sound: These cymbals are perfect for detecting disturbances in a space and cleansing, purifying the space of all negativity.
For a regular purification of your living space, sound the cymbals in the center of the room, then in the four corners clockwise from east to north and sound the cymbals again in the center. In consciousness, with the intention of purification.

Using tingsha for therapeutic purposes
In energy healing, cymbals are very effective in detecting blockages and accompanying the healing process. Their sound also enables the patient to return to the present at the end of a session.
With singing bowls
The tingsha is the perfect accompaniment to the singing of the bowls. Their sound is clearer and more crystalline than that of the bowls and making them a perfect complement.
The sacred in your daily life
Used for millennia in various spiritual ceremonies, tingsha and their crystalline, magical, purifying and harmonious sound invite the sacred into various daily or occasional actions.
You can use them to open and close a ritual, or to mark the beginning and end of a meal, or the beginning and end of an important discussion, or to accompany a vow or prayer.
Tingsha have their place on many occasions and can enchant your daily life in a very pretty way.
