Your Lava pearls are made of Basalt, a volcanic rock formed from magma that has suddenly cooled on contact with air or water.
It consists mainly of silica and alkaline oxides, sometimes with the addition of magnetite or quartz. Its variable appearance - vitreous, dark or crystalline, its black or gray color - depends on the impurities within it. Its porous texture is the result of gases trapped when the stone solidified.
Whether it comes from the earth or the seabed, lava is pretty hard, scoring between 5 and 6 on the Mohs scale.
