AirAmethyst in mineralogy
A violet variety of quartz, amethyst is formed hydrothermally at temperatures ranging from 100°C to 250°C from an iron-containing silicic acid-rich solution that seeps into the cavities of volcanic rocks.
Its violet color is due to the presence of ionizing radiation emanating from the surrounding rocks.
This oxide-class crystal is composed of silicon dioxide and traces of aluminum, iron, calcium, magnesium, lithium and sodium.
Its rhombohedral crystals take the form of crystal meadows or coarse clusters of various sizes lining the cavities of volcanic rocks in the form of geodes or druses.
The main amethyst deposits are found in Brazil, Australia, Uruguay, Mexico and Namibia.

Dionysus was particularly interested in the young and virginal nymph Amétis. When he became insistent, Artemis decided to protect her from the ardors of Dionysus and the famous Greek orgies by transforming the young nymph into a magnificent white and pure Crystal.
Very angry, the god of wine took revenge by pouring his cup of wine over the crystal.
Another version has it that Dionysus, angry with humans, decided to unleash his tigers on the 1st human who crossed his path. It was a young girl named Amétis who happened to be passing by at the time. Feeling threatened, she asked the goddess Artemis for protection. The goddess transformed the girl into a white crystal. Dionysus immediately regretted his cruelty and delicately poured wine over the crystal as an offering.
