Origin of stone symbols

The ancient Greek philosopher Theophrastus names chrysocolla in his Treatise on Stones (circa 315 BC). At the time, its flux was used to solder gold - indeed, the stone's name comes from the Greek chrysos (gold) and kolla (glue).

Its representation, linked to metallurgy, is alchemical: Chrysocolla symbolizes the link between elements, the ability to unite and transform, the gift of technical mastery and transmutation. It is associated with serenity, care and balance.

Its use as a noble pigment in the creation of frescoes in Antiquity and the Renaissance confirms its power to inspire.

Lithotherapy benefits

Chrysocolla is a stone that can bring peace and harmony to your relationship with yourself and others. It is sometimes called the stone of friendship, as it encourages listening, understanding, tolerance, forgiveness, acceptance and expression of emotions and feelings.

Linking the heart to the spoken word, in lithotherapy it facilitates clear, benevolent and honest speech. Its reputation makes it ideal for overcoming jealousies, fears and grudges.

Its feminine energies invite you to journey towards inner peace. Chrysocolla is like your reflection in a mirror when you question yourself, when you ask yourself to look within and be honest with yourself. What void are you constantly trying to fill? You can do, but have you thought about being?

The siren song is not always the most pleasant to lull us to sleep, if behind the melody that obsesses us reveal truths that are difficult to accept. But going into the depths is the only way to the light. Illuminating the fall also means breathing new air, and Chrysocolla can accompany you with its benevolence, like a wonderful guide or mentor.

On a physical level

The physical effects of Chrysocolla are not scientifically documented. But according to tradition, its strong symbolic connection to feminine energies makes the stone an ally for women, particularly during hormonal cycles or motherhood.

For women, it is a precious companion, helping to regulate the hormonal system and providing great support in all the natural cycles of their lives. In lithotherapy, Chrysocolla regulates the menstrual cycle and relieves cramps that can occur during menstruation or ovulation. During pregnancy or menopause, it can help you cope better with hormonal changes, calming the high levels of emotion often associated with these stages of life.

In addition, according to tradition, its copper content makes Chrysocolla an excellent stone for boosting the immune system and curing infections, particularly those affecting the ENT sphere, such as otitis, bronchitis, colds, angina or flu. Its anti-inflammatory action helps to reduce fever and relieve joint pain.

How is Chrysocolla used in lithotherapy?

To relieve pain, place your Chrysocolla directly on the painful area, using a bandage to hold it in place if necessary.

For ENT infections (chronic or otherwise), wear a Chrysocolla necklace. Especially in winter, or when you're feeling tired and your immune system needs support. This shouldn't prevent you from consulting a doctor if symptoms persist.

A Chrysocolla offered as a token of friendship is a precious gift in any friendly or loving relationship.

Wear a Chrysocolla necklace if you're going to be speaking in public or in a conversation where emotions might get the better of you.

Where to place a Chrysocolla?

On the dining room table for meals that rhyme with conviviality and sincere sharing.

In the living room or in a central point of the house to enhance family harmony.

Under your pillow if you have a cold or cough that interferes with your sleep.

In a treatment room, especially when the therapy involves a great deal of talking.

In your workshop to foster your creativity.

Warning: Chrysocolla is toxic as an elixir!

Chrysocolla mineralogy

Chrysocolla is composed of copper and aluminum hydrosilicate. It forms where copper is exposed to air and moisture.

It is rarely pure and often contains Malachite, Azurite, Shattuckite or Cuprite. It can be found in close proximity to Chalcedony or Quartz and appears in botryoidal, fibrous or stalactite form.

This hydrated copper silicate can be translucent to opaque, with a luster ranging from vitreous to earthy.

The main deposits are located in the United States, Chile, Mexico, Peru, Russia and the Democratic Republic of Congo.

Its hardness varies between 2 and 4 on the Mohs scale, making it a relatively soft stone.
