Mineralogical features of green tourmaline

Verdelite is a borosilicate of the cyclosilicate class and consists of a complex structure of at least six different elements: sodium, aluminum, boron, lithium, silicon, hydrogen and oxygen. Its green color comes from traces of iron, titanium, chromium or vanadium in its crystalline structure.
Its crystal system is rhombohedral, often with a triangular part. Green tourmaline crystals are baguette-shaped, with variable-length longitudinal lines ranging from yellow-green to bottle-green to dark green.

It is formed during complex geological processes in igneous, metamorphic and sedimentary rocks.

Like all Tourmalines, Verdelite has the particularity of generating an electrical attraction when heated or rubbed.

Its hardness ranges from 7 to 7.5 on the Mohs scale. It is therefore a relatively hard stone, suitable for jewelry-making.
