Jasper is a variety of microcrystalline Quartz from the Chalcedony family and consists mainly of Silica.
Its impurities account for its highly diverse colors. Thus, for example, Picasso Jasper is composed mainly of silica, with inclusions of iron and manganese; Dalmatian Jasper is composed of microcrystalline quartz, feldspar and tourmaline.
Jasper is found all over the world, including Australia, Brazil, Egypt, the United States and India.
