Mahogany obsidian in mineralogy, composition, formation and particularities

Obsidian is an amorphous (non-crystalline) volcanic rock. It forms when lava cools rapidly and solidifies without having had time to crystallize.
It is composed mainly of silicon dioxide and various other elements, mainly oxides of aluminum, iron, calcium, potassium, magnesium and sodium.

The mahogany variety gets its brown zones from a more consistent presence of iron oxide. It is also known as Mahogany Obsidian or Brown Obsidian.
