Symbols

It was discovered fairly recently, in the 19th century near the town of Mariposa, California, which gave it its name - Mariposa means butterfly in Spanish.

It was the time of the gold rush and its presence in gold deposits makes it a symbol of abundance and wealth.

Modern esotericism describes it as a stone for change, its connection to nature facilitating spiritual transformations and rebirths in the quest for inner peace.

Properties, meanings and spiritual virtues

Frequently found in white dolomitic marble, Mariposite is closely related to Fuchsite or green Muscovite.

Linked to the Earth, Mariposite provides a sense of anchorage and security. It is a resource, a forest bath, a soothing stone whose invitation to connect with nature can be of great help in lithotherapy for stress and anxiety.

This new-found connection with nature also means reconnecting with your heart and taking the path of emotional healing. Its symbol provides the balance born of the release of negative energies and old patterns.

Regaining mental and emotional flexibility is a prerequisite for both adaptation and transformation. Its protection and support will be all the more precious in times of transition, helping to bring mental clarity and lucidity to choices involving the possibility of a new path.

By virtue of its spirit of openness to archetypes, artists and craftspeople will be sensitive to its stimulation of creativity and expression, its reminder of the very essence of being and desire, its invitation to savor the wonderful breath of life that animates you.

Mariposite mineralogy

Classified as a metamorphic rock, Mariposite is not a mineral species per se, but rather a variety of chromium-rich Phengite, itself a form of Muscovite (Mica).

It is common to find it in a matrix of Dolomite or Quartz, which explains its white hue; its green color comes from the presence of chromium in the crystal structure.

It is found in the USA, Canada (where it is sometimes called "Virginite"), Austria, France, Ireland and Sweden.

Its hardness on the Mohs scale is between 3 and 4, depending on the minerals present in its composition - it's a relatively soft stone.
