Peridot, also known as Olivine or Chrysolite (Greek: Golden Stone), is highly prized in jewelry in its gem form. It is a variety of ferrous forsterite and consists of ferrous magnesium silicate. The sine qua non for the formation of Peridot is the absence of Quartz.
