In the Andes, it was a tool for accessing knowledge of the past.
It arrived in Europe on merchant ships in the 18th century - along with its connection to healing practices. A Dutch scientist, Johann Georg von Eckermann, believed that placing a Tourmaline in silk on the cheek of a feverish child would induce sleep.

Pink tourmaline or rubellite forms mainly in pegmatites, igneous rocks rich in rare materials. It is a complex borosilicate of aluminum, iron, magnesium, sodium, lithium or potassium, most often found near minerals such as Mica, Quartz and Feldspar.
Its color, from pink to violet to red, is due to the presence of manganese and lithium crystals in its structure.
Its hardness on the Mohs scale ranges from 7 and 7.5, making it a relatively resistant mineral and highly suitable for jewelry.
Initially, the term Rubellite referred only to red Tourmalines, but has since been applied to the much more common pink Tourmalines.
