What are the spiritual properties and virtues of Yellow Opal in lithotherapy?

Energizing - Balancing - Willpower - Self-confidence - Mental clarity - Soothing - Sentimental expression - Optimism - Concentration

The origin of its symbols

Its symbols have a long history: the name Opal, derived from the Sanskrit upala, meaning "precious stone", is said to have been taken up by the Greeks and then by the Latins (opalus).

The ancient Romans saw this stone as a symbol of hope and purity.

Many contemporary legends have little historical or archaeological basis, but it can be said that in medieval European culture, Opal was called "eye stone", ophtalmios, because of the power it was believed to have in preserving eyesight.

Its meaning and benefits in lithotherapy
The choice of optimism

In lithotherapy, Yellow Opal's action on the solar plexus chakra stimulates mental clarity, an effect conducive to supporting both willpower and self-confidence.

The stone will accompany its wearer with its energizing and balancing effects on the mind, dissipating negative energies and strongly favoring optimism.

Optimism certainly doesn't mean thinking the world is good in itself, but choosing to see the vitalizing side of events, because it's our subjective wills and experiences that shape the meaning we give to reality.

While we are all familiar with Voltaire's devastating critique of Leibniz's blissful optimism in his Candide, his observations paved the way for a more mature and contemporary conception of optimism, refusing to limit it to a belief or an emotion, instead, affirming it as a commitment to perfecting the world, as a joyful lucidity, in the image of Albert Camus in his Myth of Sisyphus, where recognition of the absurdity of our condition cannot prevent us from choosing to live and act.

There's no naivety in optimism, it's a resilience of the spirit. It's this choice for mental and physical health that Yellow Opal embodies, promoting inner balance in lithotherapy, both soothing emotional excesses and encouraging the expression of feelings.

In meditation

Yellow Opal can be used in meditation to aid concentration and spiritual connection.

On a physical level

There is no scientific proof of the stone's physical effects, but tradition attributes to it a power to revive the desire to live in people of advanced age or prone to chronic illness. It is said to support the immune system, metabolism and kidney functions.

Mineralogy of Yellow Opal

In mineralogy, yellow opal is considered a mineraloid - a non-crystallized material with a vitreous or jelly-like appearance due to its amorphous structure.

Its fracture is conchoidal and its diaphaneity ranges from translucent to opaque, with a vitreous to waxy lustre. Its yellow hue is due to the presence of iron in its composition.

Yellow opal is a delicate stone, containing a high proportion of water (up to 20%). It is formed by the precipitation of silica in rock cavities, mostly in volcanic or sedimentary sites.

Its deposits are mainly found in Australia, Mexico, Brazil, Peru and Ethiopia.

Its hardness varies between 5.5 and 6 on the Mohs scale - a relatively fragile stone.
