History and benefits of Obsidian pendants and necklaces

Mineralogy

Obsidian has been used by ancient cultures to create tools and jewelry. It could be used for knife points, mirrors or ornaments - as a pendant, necklace or bracelet, for example. Its use probably dates back to the dawn of mankind. Obsidian is often found where our species has settled - but, depending on the region, although all are of volcanic origin, they have their own specific characteristics.

Black or smoky Apache Tear Obsidian, for example, known as Celestial Eye when cut in such a way as to form the shape of an eye or heart, originates from the lands of this tribe in the USA.

Another example of a notorious variety: Golden Obsidians are a type of volcanic glass that forms when felsic lava cools rapidly without crystallization. Their golden lustre comes from pyrite and beryl inclusions combined with gas bubbles trapped in the stone, which reflect light like tiny mirrors. They come from Mexico and Guatemala.

In lithotherapy

Obsidian is a stone of healing and introspection.

What you're running away from, Obsidian will force you to face squarely; indeed, facing your demons is necessary to find your balance.

Reputedly effective against evil forces and negative energies, an Obsidian pendant will help you to remain yourself in all circumstances.

Remember that the negative energies around you will only disturb you if they resonate with you.
