What are tingshas?

A musical instrument of Buddhist culture

Tingshas, also known as Tibetan cymbals, are one of the many sacred musical instruments found in Buddhist culture. They have been used for millennia in Buddhist regions for ceremonies and meditation. Their limpid and diaphanous sound is said to open up a sacred space in which the gods are invited to dwell.

Fabrication and provenance

To create the cymbals, Nepal's artisan blacksmiths pour the molten metal into a sand mold. Once cooled, the tingsha is then sanded. Some cymbals are oxidized to give the metal a darker color. Each tingsha is unique. You'll receive the one you can see in photo and video on the product sheet.

How to play the tingshas?

Let the tingshas hang by the cord, then gently strike the edges of the cymbals together. A clear, resonant and purifying sound is produced. Different vibrations, all in harmony, are obtained by varying the strength and speed of the strikes and rubs.

The virtues of the sacred in your daily life

The sound of tingshas can help clarify the mind and create a peaceful atmosphere. It immediately connects the body and mind to the present moment and to the sacred.
The virtues of Tibetan cymbals make them an instrument that can be used on many occasions: their tinkling can mark the opening and closing of a ritual or meal, a yoga class or meditation, accompany your wishes or prayers, or capture the attention of your children or audience. In therapeutic care or geobiology, they can be used to detect disturbances and accompany the healing process of a person or place. You can also use them as a musical instrument.
