Rhodochrosite
The Incas said that the heart of Mother Earth is Rhodochrosite. So it's hardly surprising that today it's considered the stone of unconditional love and forgiveness.

The benefits of Rhodochrosite
When your heart is bruised by the dagger of betrayal, darkened by grief and sorrow, perverted by jealousy, shocked by trauma, wounded by too much harshness or lonely because of lack of consideration, Rhodochrosite, in a wave of compassion, comes to embrace your heart to finally put it back in the spotlight, to give it the care it deserves.
Her energy is gentle, feminine, maternal and her wisdom teaches you to start by loving yourself, encouraging you to be gentle and attentive, inviting you to take the path of forgiveness in order to find peace and to work in the service of yourself and others with pure love, selfless love, unconditional love as your only driving force.
Her wisdom also teaches you not to believe the stories you make up to protect yourself. She loves the truth and doesn't accept you playing the victim or the Calimero, because if that's the kind of role you choose, your heart will stay closed.
Only you hold the key to your heart, and only you can decide whether to use it to lock it up tight or, on the contrary, open it wide and release the magic that lies within its very heartbeat. So, which do you choose?
Its soothing properties make it a formidable anti-stress stone. It's a welcome companion at times when too much tension builds up, when nervousness seems to reign, or when the weight of responsibilities, tasks and obligations make you forget to take time for yourself. It's also a great help in times of emotional shock, anxiety or hyperemotionality.
A Rhodochrosite is a dear friend who, as an accomplice, urges you to express your feelings, your passions, your desires, even the wildest, even those tinged with eroticism, to dare to dream, to dare to reveal yourself to yourself.
A healer of the feminine energy within you, she helps you make the healing transition from "wounded feminine" to " sacred feminine". She works mainly on the mother archetype, showing you the shadow sides of this archetype, healing the related wounds and explaining how to reveal the beauty, power and magic of "the Mother", whether you're a man or a woman.
On a physical level, it can help soothe palpitations and stimulate blood pressure, but take care not to use Rhodochrosite in cases of high blood pressure!
It can relieve itchy skin and improve blood circulation and the elasticity of blood vessels. Soothing, it can help reduce the symptoms of illnesses and pathologies linked to excessive stress: migraines, ulcers, gastric disorders, insomnia, infections, chronic inflammation, etc.
During menopause, it can relieve hot flushes, help cope with hormonal variations and the inconveniences of this stage of life and prevent osteoporosis.

WaterRhodochrosite in mineralogy
Rhodochrosite is a manganese carbonate that may contain iron, magnesium and calcium (which explains its variations in color, hardness and density).
It forms either in low-temperature hydrothermal veins, by metamorphism, by infiltration of high-temperature fluids or, more frequently, in the oxidation zone of manganese deposits, where infiltrated water containing carbon dioxide gives rise to Rhodochrosite thanks to the manganese oxides present.
It is most often found in massive stalactites and stalagmites, which crystallize in successive episodes (giving rise to concentric patterns of different shades of pink and white). When formed from hydrothermal solutions, it forms meadows of small crystals.
The finest Rhodochrosite crystals come from the "Sweet Home" mine in Colorado (transparent rhombohedral crystals) or from South Africa (scalenohedral, pointed crystals of scarlet red color with great transparency).
The country with the most Rhodochrosite is Argentina, but it is also found in Germany, Romania, Gabon, Mexico, China and Peru (Peruvian Rhodochrosite contains more iron, which gives it its darker, reddish-pink color).
It can be confused with pink calcite (different density) and with rhodonite (black spots of oxidized manganese).
The history of Rhodochrosite
Its name comes from the Greek Rhodo rose and chros couleur and was given to it in 1813. It was only in 1934 that it was introduced to the European public.
A sacred stone for the Incas, legend has it that there exists a cave beneath the Andes Mountains, in which sits a majestic, heart-shaped Rhodochrosite. This sacred stone is the heart of the Earth, beating every 200 years.
Another Inca legend tells us that Rhodochrosite is the crystallized blood of the ancestors.
There's also a legend in which Rhodochrosite symbolizes forgiveness: the Priestess of the Sun, Ñusta Ajita and her lover, the warrior Tupac Canqui, fled Lake Titicaca to live out their love in freedom. They travelled as far as the salt desert and, after many adventures, they met their deaths and it was in each other's arms that their bodies turned to stone. Roses of crystallized blood grew on this unlikely sculpture. A shepherd plucked the roses and brought them to the king. The king accepted the offering and forgave the lovers their disobedience.
For over a century, Rhodochrosite has been widely used in jewelry and particularly appreciated by collectors. It is also a great success in lithotherapy, where it is used as a heart-healing stone and stone of forgiveness.
Did you know?
Rhodochrosite is considered the national stone of Argentina. It is also the official stone of the State of Colorado.
Alma King is the largest Rhodochrosite crystal ever discovered. It was found in 1992 in Colorado, USA and measures 14 x 16.5 cm !
