EarthEldarite mineralogy
Eldarite Kambaba is a volcanic rhyolite composed mainly of quartz, feldspar, amphibole and pyroxene. Its distinctive patterns are due to aggregates of green amphibole surrounded by pyroxene.
Amphibole is a group of silicate minerals, essentially composed of iron, magnesium, aluminum and silica, often formed in metamorphic or magmatic rocks.
Its main deposits are found in South Africa and Madagascar.
Other names include Jaspe Kambaba, Jaspe Crocodile, Kabamba Stone and Jaspe Stromatolite. It is sometimes confused with Nebula Stone.
Did you know?
This mineral could be a fossil over 3 billion years old, containing the oldest traces of life on earth. However, some analyses suggest that they may be volcanic rocks (rhyolites) rather than genuine stromatolitic fossils. This would depend on the provenance and exact composition of the stone. Stay tuned!
Its hardness on the Mohs scale is between 6 and 7: it is therefore a stone that is fairly resistant to scratches - but can be carved and polished to make jewelry and decorative objects.
