What are the virtues and properties of a fine green stone?

Green color symbols

The color green is associated with boundless love, experienced and perceived in its physical and spiritual vitality. This absolute feeling can be associated with Nature's changes, family ties, the eternal return of hope, youth, and the metaphor of spring as healing, renewal and growth of body and mind.

Like all powerful symbols, green is ambivalent: a soothing, fertile color, it can also signify inexperience and innocence which, armed with a sense of belonging, confronts toxicity and disloyalty, only to overcome them with the feelings of unconditional love.

Lithotherapy meanings

In lithotherapy, green semiprecious stones are associated with the idea of renewal, whether this relates to growth or spiritual healing - thanks to the spirit's revitalized links with emotions and the symbolism of the heart chakra - or to the powers of Nature.
A new understanding of oneself and others and better communication with an alter-ego sum up the most obvious virtues and benefits of gemstones in this color.

Mineralogy of green gemstones

There are four possible explanations for the green color of a mineral:
The stone may contain chromium, which very often accounts for an intense green hue, as in Diopside or Emerald.
The stone may contain chromium or iron, whose mixture in impurities or inclusions can create a wide variety of greens, as in Epidote or Actinolite.
The presence of Chlorite, a ferrous phyllosilicate, in slightly oxidized conditions, can create a green coloration.
Diagenetic reactions occurring after deposition in sediments prior to metamorphism can affect the composition of sedimentary rocks. For example, Hematite, a red iron oxide, can be reduced to Magnetite or Siderite - the latter two with a green tinge - by lack of oxygen, chemical reaction or microbial activity.
